I have been involved in several organizations throughout pharmacy school; however, I have been most involved with Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, or CPFI. At the end of my P2 year, I was blessed to be elected as Chaplain for the 2012-2013 year. As Chaplain, I had the responsibility of providing a 5-10 minute devotion at the beginning of our monthly meetings; I was also put in charge of organizing Bible studies which historically did not have good participation. In an attempt to resolve this problem, I had the idea of starting a weekly devotion ministry via e-mail, which would allow people to participate in a "Bible study" at their convenience. The primary goal of these devotions was to encourage others, but I also wanted to motivate and challenge others to grow in their faith. I feel that I was given this opportunity to remind us all how we can use our roles as pharmacists to have an eternal impact on the people we interact with every day.

LEADERSHIP

Sample Devotions:

Guest Speaker Presentation:

When I first sent an e-mail inviting the entire school to participate in receiving the devotions, I decided I would be happy if even 50 people wanted to participate. Roughly 300 replies later, I was overwhelmed with the response to the invitation. I knew that the Lord had big plans for this ministry, and I worked hard to write these devotions each week knowing my words would reach so many people. In hindsight, I feel that I was blessed by this ministry even more than the people I was serving. Not only did I grow in my relationship with the Lord, but I was often encouraged by kind comments about the devotions. It was great to hear how people were encouraged during tough times or even how their relationships with Christ were strengthened. This ministry taught me the impact I can make as a leader, and I am excited about the impact I can make in my future career.

Here are some of the encouraging comments I received about the devotions:

  • "This is just what I needed to start the week!!"

  • "Thank you so much for using your gift and love for Christ to encourage others..."

  • "AWESOME! You are really sensitive to what is going on and I appreciate so much what you did with this devotion!!! God has really used you in this capacity!!!"

  • "Thank you again for the leadership, guidance, and wisdom you are providing to our HSOP family."

I was recently invited to be the guest speaker for one of the montly CPFI meetings. What an honor! I always enjoyed CPFI meetings during school because they were a great way to take my mind off the stresses of school, hear an encouraging word, and spend a little time in fellowship with friends. That's exactly what I wanted to offer as a guest speaker. I focused my presentation on providing encouragement to fellow student pharmacists, discussing practical ways to show the love of Christ through the profession of pharmacy, all while including examples from my experiences while on P4 rotations.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I recently received the honor of being inducted into Phi Lambda Sigma, also known as the national Pharmacy Leadership Society. The Alpha chapter was chartered in 1965 at Auburn University with the mission of supporting pharmacy leadership by recognizing leaders and fostering leadership development. I am proud to be a member of such a prestigious organization and the tradition that is Phi Lambda Sigma today.

George Hargreaves Leadership Scholarship

I was honored to receive this scholarship, which is awarded based on leadership displayed within the Harrison School of Pharmacy and the surrounding community.

Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International Leadership Award

I was also honored with this award, which is given for dedication in leading others to worship Jesus Christ within the Harrison School of Pharmacy and the surrounding community.

Rite Aid Marketing Plan Competition

3rd Place Team - Best All Around

I am also proud to be a member of an award-winning team in the annual Rite Aid Marketing Competiton, which takes place among the entire P2 class on both the Auburn and Mobile campuses of the Harrison School of Pharmacy. My team won 3rd place in the Best All Around, or Most Feasible, category. We created an original pharmacy with an innovative service, Home Front Pharmacy and Military Rehabilitation Services, in which members of the military, veterans, and their families could receive outstanding pharmaceutical care as well as social and psychological support via the services of a Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist. Our goal was to honor and serve those who do the same for our nation every day by "Strengthening Our Country's Strongest." To learn a little more about our marketing plan, click the button below.
